Mike can never remember a time when music didn't seem to control his life. He listened passionately to radio as a kid in the 1950's and 60's. He tried but failed miserably as a trumpeter in school. At Kent State University, he discovered the joys of programming jazz, blues, underground rock and classical music. After short stints in commercial radio and managing a record store, he lucked into a position teaching radio broadcasting withDayton Public Schools and managing their radio station, WDPS-FM. He also teamed up with his friend Bill Flint and programmed British Isles folk music on WYSO-FM, Yellow Springs for more than twenty years.Thirty years went by quickly and retirement brought Mike a series of interesting part-time jobs but left him with a large music library that needed to be heard. So he packs up a bag of blues and jazz every week, bringing it to the listeners of WDPS. |
